Location of Austin’s USGP Track to be Announced on Tuesday!

Austin f1 news, possible location for US Grand Prix

The Elroy area of the Austin Metroplex

July 26, 2010: An official announcement for the location of the Austin USGP track is expected on Tuesday, July 27th around 10am Central Time.  Not much has been revealed to the public about the location of the new, purpose-built track. Even the  initial announcement that the next US Grand Prix location would be held in Austin, Texas was unexpected for most.

Many speculate that the site will be in Travis County, on the Southeast side of Austin. Some say it will be near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, but that has been debated. It’s possible that it will end up in Manor or near Elroy road, both in the Southeast part of the city.

The announcement is sure to raise issues with any local residents who will be impacted by construction and traffic. A couple of major issues have already been in hot debate.  One is the question of state funding, the other concerns the increase of greenhouse emissions during race times.  There’s no question that development along the route between downtown and the US Grand Prix track location will be substantial – hotels, restaurants,  etc…..

We’ll be watching tomorrow morning.
